Another month end. Another closing. Another attempt to churn out results.
I have closed the month a day earlier. If only it is already June, it will be the time to celebrate.
Sometimes I feel that it is the cyclic nature of my job that makes me lose track of time. Is it 2012 already? Month after month and year after yeari, chasing is never ending in my industry. It does not matter which level you stand on the chain, plankton, ikan bilis or whale or human, you needa chase. Without sales, everyone will be redundant.
It is not like being in a cyclic type of job is bad. Rather, every job will have its own cycle. It is only a matter of time before your cycle repeats. I love my job actually. It is one of those job you don't wake up on mondays and have those ' i needa take MC' kinda moments.
I am yearning for a beach holiday. Sweep me off my feet and whisk me away...

It has been almost 2 years since I last blogged. The last post was dated oct 2010.
Age is an accelerating clock with an unexpected battery life. 26 is yet another number of that clock and 23-26 was pretty much a stroke of that ticking arm.
I have since moved on to another company, befriended another group of colleagues, learnt from my numerous mistakes. I have grown in all ways possible.
Recently, I attended K's engagement. As I looked at her walking down the aisle, I really felt very happy for her, thankful that I have her as my friend. I have many crazy friends. K used to belong to my group of crazy friends, belong seems to be an understatement. She was the leader of the crazy group, and she got married first. She retired from the scene of craziness and gave up everything she has here to relocate overseas with her husband.
That's growing up. When I have my own kids and have much difficulties getting them to do the right, un-crazy things, she will be my motivation.

Today, i took a lift that seemed to last for hours. With emotions and pain so thick that it was suffocating. I was in the lift in one of the private hospital and there was this old man sitting in the wheelchair that was pushed right in front of me. He was within arms length from me. I first noticed the googles like glasses he had, and then...
he was wincing like he was in terrible pain. In pain at no specific area. He kept throwing his hands to his face.. all that.. in silent. Wincing in slient, and yet you know that he is wincing.
His face was squeezed into a knot, his hands helplessly getting thrown to his face.
His nurse(male nurse) was carelessly stroking his neck to sooth his pain. But the old man's face was a red knot. he must be in alot of pain. I can feel his pain just by watching him. I try not to look at him, but i cant stop myself from worrying about him. I kept checking his reflection off the mirrors of the lift. But, I didnt do anything else. I stood there just suffocated with emotions, with pain.
I'm starting to see meaning to palliative care. in pain management and in my job.

After i started driving, i realised the fragility of life. Every close shave I see or feel gives me greater believe in the preciousness of life.
Every evening when I see my family members, sc and my home, I feel so relief that I am home, they are home, healthy and safe.
Today, i overheard a conversation that brought tears to my eyes and made me treasure life more.
I was using my laptop at the lift lobby in Mount E when a family walked towards the row of empty chairs beside me.
An old lady helped the old man with walking stick to the chair and sat beside him.
3 middle age women followed behind them and crowded ard the old couple. suddenly, one girl ard my age joined them and said.
' Gong Gong, what is it you want? Do you want or do not want the chemo?'
The old man shook his head.
'Why do you not want it?' the girl asked with a tinge of desperation and edge that said that her patience is running out.
'What? Uh... Don't understand.' The old man was hard of hearing and communicated his dislike for technicalities in the dr's explaination.
'No, gong gong, the dr needa tell you that! Because if you want to do chemo, there is an additional procedure you need to do and might be uncomfortable.' the girl replied.
'Huh?' The old man was really hard of hearing. the girl said it pretty loudly.
This makes the situation very sad. Imagine yourself worried and scared due to the diagnosis. In additional to that, you cant hear much. while the dr. explain the technicalities to your family, all you can hear is the unfamiliar, alien terms stringed together into sentences. With the tense expressions ard you, all you will be able to feel is the sense of doom.
Sitting beside him, i felt his fear and anxiety. I felt his sense of loss due to bad hearing. I couldnt bear it any longer, packed my laptop in lightning speed and walked towards the lift. While I make my escape, i saw the tears flowing freely on one of the middle age woman's face ( her daughter) and on his wife ( the old lady)'s face. Being sick is on thing, watching your family fall sick and when theres nth you can do, that kind of desperation, even me as a third party, bystander can feel it. That kind of desperation pierced thru atmosphere and everyone there ( only me at that time) can feel it.

The term 'rat race' is usually linked to 'the race to the bottom of the pits'. In a way, that is very true. I think that is an apt description for the life of an employee, which probably describes every Tom, Dick and Harry standing at the random traffic lights near your house now! Working to earn enough to spend; and spending enough to motivate you to continue working. The unhealthy vicious cycle that ensures continual membership to the rat race seems unavoidable.
But what exactly makes the rat race so undesirable, such that it is a race to the bottom of the pits?
Actually, the vicious cycle is a representation of nature in a greater scale. Homeostasis ensures balance in our body and makes us drink when we're out of water, and pass out water when we have too much. Doesnt that sound familiar? But we do not complain bout that?
In many ways, the continual entry into rat races makes our lifes seem aimless and tiresome. However, I believe that every race gives us a piece of the puzzle that will fit into the greater picture of our life experience. Rat race, do you win? Or the rat won? The rat wins since we cant get ourselves out of the race. We win when we can make more out of the race than JUST the activity itself.

It is too much of a bother to start posting bout my europe christmas proposal trip.
Pictures will paint a thousand words.... ( i have a gazzilion pictures.. soooo you do the maths and will understand why is it impractical to blog!)
(im lazy.. check out faceboook yeah?)
So i am currently engaged. And these are some of the FAQs i have collected...
What is it like to be engaged at 23 going 24?
It feels like you have finally make your first major decision of ur life yourself.
What made me so sure he is the one?
Everytime I look at him, i cant help it but smile to myself. Everytime we hang out, we have endless things to talk about, laugh about, smile about. We can meet everyday and yet still want to meet the very next day. He looks attractive in all shitty clothes always...
When he goes out till late night, and he doesnt pick up my calls, or return smses.. I am more worried than pissed.. (OF COURSE>> ONCE HE PICKS UP> I AM 100% pissed)
We are like jigsaw pieces fixed for each other...
Do you think you will ever be sick of him?
I will always remember the reason i fell in love with him, theres no reason to be sick of him when im falling in love with him everytime i look at him...
Lets grow old together miu=)

In a huge way, you made me who I am.
Why do I feel so much for the elderly? It is because of you.
Why is my hokkien so fluent? It is because of you. You said if i cant speak hokkien, i havent studied enough. She thinks that school teaches us hokkien.
How can I not care? It is because I mean so much to her.
My grandmother was admitted to the hospital last night. She had a fall and fractured her arm. There were broken pieces of bone in her arm and required immediate surgery. It has been a long time since I went to visit her. I went to the ward to visit her today. Looking at the frail old lady occupying less than half the bed. Looking at her smile when I held her hand. Hearing recognition in her voice as she said 'Ah yen? wa zai' ( Ah yen? I know, i remember) as my aunt announced that I am there to visit her.
I asked her if her arm hurts and she said yes. I asked her if shes eaten and she said yes. I asked her if she wants me to buy her favourite zui kueh for her when i visit her again this sat, she said yes. Theres little that she will say no to. She has dementia. To those who havent met me in awhile, I am having dementia phobia. I think thats the worse thing that can happen to ANYONE. To forget your life journey. To forget everything that matters to you. To lose that most valuable thing you gain from living==> your memories.
I recalled what happened the week my grandma was brought to stay in a nursing home. She kept saying she felt ill. She was throwing another fit and insisting on going to the hospital (emergeny). But none of us were free, my mom dislikes her, dad was overseas, brother, sister and me having exams the next day. Prior to that, she was in and out of hospital a few times. There was nth physically wrong with her to keep her in the hospitals and she was discharged after 1 day each time. She went off with my brother, took a cab and asked to be sent to the hospital. In a few minutes, she decided that she wants to go home. And another few minutes, to be sent to the hospital. It went on and on. Dementia is such a scary disease. She forgets whether she has eaten, forgets who we are, forgets things that made her happy or sad. To forget and know that you have forgetten things so important to you, things that made you alive, it is inevitable that you would be depressed. We overlooked that part. Instead of being patient, we were irritable and showed less concern to her when she needed it the most.
Nobody shld be more guilty than me. I am the closest to her. Ever since I was born, she has been living with me, taking care of me. My parents were out 7 days a week when we were richer and even now, when we are poorer. Everyday, she will be there at home when i reach home from school. I would say 'I'm home' to her. she will make sure theres lunch/dinner etc for me. Nag at me to bathe. Nag at me to keep quiet. Nag at me to stop chatting on the phone. I was rude. I wld ignore those nags or simple shut her off by saying sHHHH. Now, she can only reply to my questions without understanding them fully.
She has a full set of dentures and is only able to eat very very soft vege. I kept complaining how they don taste as good and how they are losing their nutritions. Now, shes no longer strong enough to cook, i don get to taste the soft vege, and no longer get to complain bout the nutrition level of the food.
She was very worried bout us not caring for her when shes old. She always ask me, 'Will you take care of me if your parents don;t want me anymore?' From what I've heard, she was a mean mother in law. I will always reply ' of course, I will buy a house and live with you.' She used to ask me, ' Will you cook for me when i go blind and can no longer cook?' She had serious cataract. I wld say ' I will cook porridge for you and pick out the bones for you'. I didnt fulfil any of the promises i've made. I don think i will be able to fulfil all of them. I don have $$. I have to work, i cant keep her company in the day even if i have the $$ to buy a house. I can cook porridge. But i am not a good cook. I will try. I HAVE TO. that is the least i can do to keep my promise to someone so important to me.
I havent been visiting her very frequently. Firstly, I dont know how to face her. It makes me sad to see her shrinking and weak. I didnt keep my promise to take care of her. I don know what else i can do. She forgets alot of my cousins' faces and names. But she remembers mine. It makes me even sadder that i havent been visiting when i am the closest to her. I WILL VISIT more often. I PROMISED MYSELF 2 hours ago, as i was bathing.
I dont know why are you so hard on me. I do what i can for someone whos done so much for me. You have done more. But why are u so critical of her? You are the one making things difficult for me. You shld learn to forgive and forget. She is MY FAMILY, and YOURS too. You can choose to be nonchalent. BUT you cant stop me from caring. It gives me headaches. BUT, it is the right thing to do. You can choose to segregate her as her extended family. TO ME, shes my grandma. MY reponsibility. I will do your part too since you are reluctant to do. It is no problem to me. I will never understand what happened in the past. But i believe that you do care about her. I believe that you are angry at me for being stressed over this cuz you are guilty in some ways. I am as always the reponsible, fillial, worrysome me. I willl do what i can, maybe more than 110% just to make sure I fulfil everyone's duties and reponsibilities for them. Please don stop me. PLease at least make it easier for me. Stop picking fights with me. Auntchrist is already very frustrated and over stretched. I cant leave her alone in this. Papa is overseas, theres only so much he can do from overseas? I must do my part, including EVERYONE's part. It is only right that we do that.

Telomerase. been awhile since i hear that term.
Working in a administrative role in a hospital, i am not practising what i learnt. somehow, i believe that most ppl ain practising what they learnt. not even those doing research (pharma). Only those bio related researchers will see telomerase often. i used to like the term telomerase. i memorised it for stem cells/drug delivery etc.
I wonder whether i am in the right job. But i am too comfy to change.

Rational Portrait of the Fieldmarshal (ENTJ)
Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition it is marshaling or situational organizing role that reaches the highest development in the Fieldmarshal. As this kind of role is practiced some contingency organizing is necessary, so that the second suit of the Fieldmarshal's intellect is devising contingency plans. Structural and functional engineering, though practiced in some degree in the course of organizational operations, tend to be not nearly as well developed and are soon outstripped by the rapidly growing skills in organizing. But it must be said that any kind of strategic exercise tends to bring added strength to engineering as well as organizing skills.
Hardly more than two percent of the total population, Fieldmarshals are bound to lead others, and from an early age they can be observed taking command of groups. In some cases, they simply find themselves in charge of groups, and are mystified as to how this happened. But the reason is that they have a strong natural urge to give structure and direction wherever they are - to harness people in the field and to direct them to achieve distant goals. They resemble Supervisors in their tendency to establish plans for a task, enterprise, or organization, but Fieldmarshals search more for policy and goals than for regulations and procedures.
They cannot not build organizations, and cannot not push to implement their goals. When in charge of an organization, whether in the military, business, education, or government, Fieldmarshals more than any other type desire (and generally have the ability) to visualize where the organization is going, and they seem able to communicate that vision to others. Their organizational and coordinating skills tends to be highly developed, which means that they are likely to be good at systematizing, ordering priorities, generalizing, summarizing, at marshaling evidence, and at demonstrating their ideas. Their ability to organize, however, may be more highly developed than their ability to analyze, and the Fieldmarshal leader may need to turn to an Inventor or Architect to provide this kind of input.
Fieldmarshals will usually rise to positions of responsibility and enjoy being executives. They are tireless in their devotion to their jobs and can easily block out other areas of life for the sake of their work. Superb administrators in any field - medicine, law, business, education, government, the military - Fieldmarshals organize their units into smooth-functioning systems, planning in advance, keeping both short-term and long-range objectives well in mind. For the Fieldmarshal, there must always be a goal-directed reason for doing anything, and people's feelings usually are not sufficient reason. They prefer decisions to be based on impersonal data, want to work from well thought-out plans, like to use engineered operations - and they expect others to follow suit. They are ever intent on reducing bureaucratic red tape, task redundancy, and aimless confusion in the workplace, and they are willing to dismiss employees who cannot get with the program and increase their efficiency. Although Fieldmarshals are tolerant of established procedures, they can and will abandon any procedure when it can be shown to be ineffective in accomplishing its goal. Fieldmarshals root out and reject ineffectiveness and inefficiency, and are impatient with repetition of error.
Hillary Clinton, Napoleon, Margret Thatcher, Carl Sagan, Bill Gates, Golda Meir, Edward Teller, George Benard Shaw, and General George C. Marshall are examples of Rational Fieldmarshals.

the perfect marriage is one where two person who loves each other dearly come together.
a quote of Randomness.
It is cool how being indispensible can be stressful yet fulfilling.
Another statement of randomness.
I was suppose to go for the wine + cheese thingy with my ex manager today. but i had prior appointment and didnt make it. some part of me felt guilty, like i havent been putting in much effort in maintaining the relationship between us. some part of me started argueing how maintaining the relationship was tough due to my tight schedule and massive workload. somehow the guilty part dominates today.
I am efficient, a fast learner and not to mention enthusiastic worker. But, i fault more than once. i wonder whether that wld take a toll on my performance. I lack the experience to differentiate errors. i wonder when i will be able to EYE BALL and know whats wrong with the data.
Sometimes i feel tired of explaining my situation to my colleagues. like when i am feeling lousy esp. cuz im always worried that they might 'feedback' to the bosses. usually i complain for that moment. i will forget.... it gets messy if my bosses ask me about my PREVIOUS unhappiness when i am already like HAPPY. hahaha.
I cant stand him. he pissed me off so badly i can stab him. Wats the problem with him. hes jealous of us? that we're getting more exposure than him? doing more than him? more valued than him? well, hes not wrong. he sucks cuz hes only good at 'smoking'. and smoking is getting banned everywhere ( mind the lameness). come on. we know u are more senior than us. don have to keeeep reminding us. how dare he ASK me to GET drink for him when I was actually doing.. RUSHING work to be sent out to the COO? while all hes doing is kapo-ing, poking his nose into my previous reports ( reports which i have already done and long over).I ACTUALLY told him i have work to rush and he stillll asked me to get him a drink... i needa step out of the office, walk over to get him a drink. not to mention the mega long queue at the small convenient store. the stupidest thing is. he tried to point out how the data is wrong. when it is actually his failing eyesight. he was surprised/shocked/stunned that i was sending/preparing teh analysis to the big shots etc. watsoever... comeon. he can do it if he wants lah. if he can do it. WAH LAU. hes best skill is to 'sian'. I feel so bullied.outrightly bullied. Fug la. ( vulgar in a cute sense. i am not exactly pissed now. but was vulgarly pissed then)
I am actually getting settled in my job. feeling upset and high on alternate days. getting used to the numerous deadlines per day. 10amX3 reports. 12pmX2 reports. 1214pmX1 report. end of month X 1 report. problem week X ppt report. adhoc X infinity reports.i will stay i guess. A day at the botanical gardens... the flooring was made up of leaves imprints.

I went mad in the excellent weather. Jumping doing splits in the air and following the bends in the branches of trees. It has been awhile since I've been 'let lose' in the greens :)

It is always painful to touch cactus... though it looks like a giant pineapple.

The flowers smell quite sweet.. with a powdery taste when the wind blows them into ur face.

Preparing for the wind.

The fat fish. DAMN fat. there were signs that say ' feed the fish with only what they like to eat' ard.

Blue sky white clouds. White pavillion with warm breeze against ur face. Thats my sunday.

Miu thinks that the tree will lead him up to the giant like that in 'jack and the bean stalk'.. i think the tree is way too huge to belong to earth.

Beautiful lotus flowers.

Tiger orchids. They really look wilted if u look from far away.

One orchid found.

Miu was going mad in the botanical gardens as well. Doing many random things with the weirdest expressions.:)

The wind. my sweat. the heat from the grd. and i was happy. i wonder why...

I am smarter. i know cactus POKES. no matter how adorable they look. don they look like mega huge green rambutans here?

Flowers. pink red yellow.

I almost ate the flowers cuz they look too pretty to be left behind... ( i cant pick them.. it is illegal to pick flowers in the garden, so eating dem will be the best way to steal dem)

I was imitating the swans sculpture.

He thinks that he made a better impression of the sculpture.

Screaming at the swans...

Swans! swimming towards me.-SWAN LAKE.

They are so pretty.. that why the ugly duckling was so sad..:

The small heart shape was formed by me. since he don know how to form it using his shadows.

our heartshape.

The red frangipani.

:)

Up close and personal with the red flowers..

blowing the ants away.by the way. i shldnt be doing that! ants help plants reproduce...

Therapeutic sight. reflection of the ripples on the celling.

Charles darwin, his inspiration.

Charles darwin, gave me trouble during bio.

ripples+ sunlight= beautiful + therapeutic picture. the equation was proven today. by ME.with the help of botanical gardens, miu, Nparks, Weather and blah.

I feeel like a frog looking at this.

Our lunch! 40% at Ah Yat Seafood for dimsum:)

$22 bucks table of food. i finished the porridge before i remember to take a picture.

Millenium walk. havent been there for ages.

Natural lighting through glass ceiling thats really high.

An art by itself.
